Demian, by Hermann Hesse

So I finished reading book one on my list, Demian by Hermann Hesse.

It details the journey of a boy that becomes a man, and follows his fate along the way.  It is, all in all, an excellent book, in my opinion, though with underlying tones of sexual confusion, which in turn ties into the mark of fate.

The book also brings up some interesting questions concerning God and the Devil, good and evil, etc...and I do so love an intellectual debate contained in a book.

On the workout front, today is pretty much a break day.  Sunday I ran/walked my half marathon and got a great time (2.36.59).  I also made friends with a woman named Karen, helping her get her best half marathon time since she's turned 60 (she's 63).

All of Sunday, after the half, and for a bit on Monday, my legs were very sore, and wearing heels Sunday night was obviously not a good choice (though I totally pulled it off...lol).  Fortunately for me, I had to pull covers on Monday morning at my job (I lifeguard), which required pushing with one or both legs while pulling my arms above my head (to straighten the covers).  This provided a great stretch for my quads and hamstrings, and I can't help but recommend it, for anyone that's sore.  I'd suggest placing one or both feet against a wall and replacing the cover with a resistance band, so long as you stretch your arms to full length above your head, even a bit farther back (feel free to arch your back).

Another thing that I discovered that definitively helps sore muscles is a new gel called Speed Gel.  It doesn't really warm or cool, but after about five minutes, most, if not all, of the pain is gone...and it lasts for at least four hours at a time.  I was very impressed, and also incredibly thankful.  Next time, I plan on training more, ahead of time, but just in case, I have the gel to fall back on...

With the holidays coming up, I am very excited to be going home, to my dog(s) and family.  In case I don't say it later on, Happy Holidays, and break out the lovely scented teas for the season!
